Absolutely no one. So how much does one get from the selling products through an affiliate link? According to the latest commissions schedule published from Amazon here are the numbers based on product category:

But, As I’m sure you noticed the majority of products don’t all into the 10% commission threshold.  In fact the majority of products fall into the 4 to 6% range and while these numbers aren’t huge by any means they can quickly add up.

How Can You Become An Amazon Affiliate?

So you like what you’ve heard and want to sign up? Here are the steps I’d recommend you take to have a successful start to your Amazon Associates Journey.

#1. Get into the Right Mindset

If you think you are going to jump into the Amazon Associates program, and make a ton of money overnight, you are going to be let down, and then you’re probably going to give up shortly thereafter. So initially taking the position of “This is going to be a lot of hard work” and mentally preparing for that is going to pay dividends to your success.

#2. Pick a Niche

Going Rambo, thinking you’ll start a website that promotes any and everything is the wrong road to go down. You should be researching and selecting a niche, one that you can become an expert on and dominate it. However, you have to be cautious not to niche down too small. The rule of thumb I’d recommend is taking a few days or weeks to “brainstorm” and think long term. Ask yourself “Are there enough products to promote associated with this topic?”

#3 Pick out a Domain Name

Your Domain is your branding and how people will perceive your website, so select one that rolls off the tongue so to speak. Some gurus will suggest exact match domain names, like: and while they do work (I’ve tried them before) they just come off kinda scammy, and can pigeon whole your website into one topic, versus a well selected domain name

#4. Build your Website/Blog

Step four is to build your website or blog. You don’t need to do anything elaborate, nor do you need to spend $150 on a custom WordPress theme. If you have money to invest in your website we recommend the Affiliate Brainstorm Theme but if you are running a extremely tight ship you can just use a free theme to get started.

#5. Start Adding Content to your Website!

While doing the research to write this article so many different “Authorities” on the subject said you should go and signup for the Affiliate program at this point but I would recommend that you do not! And here’s why. When you first open a website you aren’t going to be receiving a lot of traffic. During this period I would recommend you get as familiar as possible with your new website. Learn how to add menus, sidebars, more importantly START RESEARCHING CONTENT IDEAS and START WRITING CONTENT. Without traffic, your site is going to generate any sales so why put a bunch of links up for no reason.

The other major reason for not doing this is Amazon issued a statement about closing accounts with no activity. So don’t risk signing up just to get your account closed due to no traffic. Instead, follow the advice from the subheading of this paragraph and just write content. Once you have content on your site and real visitors there will be plenty of time to sign up for the Amazon associates program and start making sales!
